SYNAPSE IDEATHON is the first international micro-grant call by the Aion Synapse Foundation, designed to boost applied research projects with the potential to generate knowledge, innovation, and social impact in Latin America and the Caribbean.
AION Synapse Foundation invites researchers, postgraduate students, lecturers, members of universities or research centers, and professionals working in scientific, social, or technological fields to submit research and innovation projects with social impact in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Every application must have the affiliation with, or endorsement of, an eligible university, higher education institution, or research center or institute of the region.
Selected projects may receive a micro-grant of up to USD 1,000, technical support from the AION Synapse Foundation, and the opportunity to become part of a regional research and innovation network with social impact.

AION Synapse Foundation invites researchers, postgraduate students, lecturers, members of universities or research centers, and professionals working in scientific, social, or technological fields to submit research and innovation projects with social impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. Curriculum vitae
Updated curriculum vitae of the Principal Investigator, maximum three pages, in PDF format.
Institutional Endorsement Letter
Letter issued and duly signed by the Affiliated Institution, in PDF format.
Identity document
Complete, legible, and valid copy of the identity document or passport of the Principal Investigator, in PDF format.
Optional technical annexes
Strictly necessary supplementary documentation, in PDF, JPG, or PNG format.
The justification, objectives, methodology, activities, expected results, and impact of the project must be incorporated within the Official Application Form. No separate technical proposal is required.
Scope
The SYNAPSE IDEATHON funds applied research projects that generate scientific knowledge, innovative solutions, and social impact aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Your proposal must fall within at least one of the following areas:

Research oriented towards health, nutrition, mental health, public health, epidemiology, medical technologies, prevention, and quality of life.

Educational innovation, digital transformation of learning, inclusion, STEM education, scientific literacy, and capacity building.

Applied research, Artificial Intelligence, data science, emerging technologies, automation, and knowledge transfer.

Climate change, environmental conservation, biodiversity, circular economy, renewable energy, and territorial resilience.

Reduction of inequalities, social inclusion, community development, social cohesion, and innovation for territorial development.

Human rights, access to justice, governance, transparency, conflict resolution, peace, and territorial development.

Knowledge-based entrepreneurship, productive innovation, knowledge economy, local development, and competitiveness.

Proposals integrating two or more areas of knowledge, demonstrating technical quality, innovation, and clear social impact.

Up to USD 1,000
Each selected project may receive a micro-grant of up to USD 1,000, in accordance with the approved budget and the conditions established in the Grant Agreement.

Technical support
Specialized support during the technical execution period to facilitate the achievement of milestones and deliverables.

Specialized mentoring
Access to personalized sessions with researchers and professionals from the international AION Synapse network.

International visibility
Dissemination of the project and its results on the institutional channels of AION Synapse and its strategic academic partners.

Official certification
Certification issued by the foundation upon successful completion of the project and approval of reports.

SYNAPSE Community
Lifetime access to the regional network of researchers, facilitating future alliances, calls, and scientific cooperation.

The funding awarded corresponds to a competitive micro-grant intended exclusively for the execution of the approved project. Disbursement, execution, monitoring, and closing are subject to the Grant Agreement and the official Terms of Reference.
